- What is Hurricane Katrina?
"Hurricane Katrina was a powerful hurricane that caused extensive and severe damage over the southeastern United States, including the major city of New Orleans, Louisiana...At a news conference 10 a.m. on August 28, shortly after Katrina was upgraded to a Category 5 storm, New Orleans mayor C. Ray Nagin, calling Katrina "a storm that most of us have long feared", ordered the first ever mandatory evacuation of the city. Thousands of poor city residents were unable to leave the area because they lacked transportation or the means to pay for it." ( more information here) - What can you do? I don't have any "clicking" opportunities; the best way is to either donate at American Red Cross, or volunteer at an area near you (in the US).
- At my school, we are organizing donation envelopes/boxes for each classroom, and each student is asked to donate $1. If every student gives $1, a total of at least $3,000 can be reached; the teachers are asked to donate $20. With that, the goal is $5,000. We are also trying to find companies or corporations to match our goal. If you can do something similar at your school, please do. The victims suffering from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina really need your help, right now.
