- "In the spring of 2003, three young Americans from California left in search of such a story. What they found was a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them. Come, and discover the unseen" (Invisible Children). To view the synopsis of the documentary, click here.
- The mission of the Invisible Children campaign is to change "culture, policy, and lives through collisions of poverty and power." What the problem is, is poverty and unemployment.
- Nearly 70 percent of displaced people have no monetary income.
- Between 1.8 and 2 million people are internally displaced.
- 95 percent of displaced people in Northern Ugandan districts live in absolute poverty.
- The World Food Programme (WFP) currently delivers food to 84% of all households that are dependent on food aid.
- One of the projects that Invisible Children has taken on is the Bracelet project.
Basically, the project is for kids living in Uganda to create bracelets made from
reed and recycled wire; by giving the kids a job, they are obtaining a source of income.
With the bracelets made, Invisible Children sells them.
Each bracelet is a different color, and each color represents a different child The money made from selling the bracelets funnels right back into Northern Uganda through the Invisible Children Education Programs. - What I personally like about Invisible Children is the creativity they offer in telling people what they can do about the cause. Some include "Commander Cards," in which the one in charge - the Commander - "deals" cards to others, assigning the duties. There are many "cards" available to be played, such as the Conversation card, Concert card, Crap card, Cooking card, and etc. What each card does is it offers ideas for you to do something about these invisible children. If you'd like to see the different cards and ideas, please click here.
- Another thing you can do is purchse an Invisible Children DVD, and show it to as many people as possible. Have "House Parties" and show these; throw sleepovers and play this movie. The more people are aware, the better.
