No New Coal - Petition

Dominion Virginia Power’s plan to build another coal-fired power plant in Wise County will accelerate global warming, mountaintop removal mining, the construction of new transmission lines, and the poisoning of our air and water.CCAN has joined a coalition of citizen and conservation groups in a major effort to say NO to Dominion’s plans to build a new coal-fired power plant in Wise County, Va. This plant will emit over 5.6 million tons of carbon dioxide every year and cost $1.6 billion (yes, billion!). Virginia needs to invest in clean renewable energy, not new coal! The coalition plan to present the utility with a mile-long petition at its 2008 shareholders meeting.
